Workshop Discussion Guide in PDF Format in MS Word Format
November 6th, 2007
ASVI Members: A very important opportunity to address the educational programming for our children is upon us. Please read on.
In April and August, ASVI and CNIB met with Minister of Education, Ron Liepert, to discuss the challenges our children can face in accessing an appropriate education. Upon hearing submissions, the Minister supported our joint request for a Program Review of educational services for students who are blind or visually impaired, and directed that the Review be completed by December 31st, 2007. This quick timeline will enable the Minister to consider the outcomes from the Program Review, and present any recommendations he has for the upcoming budget.
In conducting the Program Review, Alberta Education seeks feedback from the stakeholders. Accordingly it has scheduled a stakeholders’ meeting for appointed representatives of the various stakeholder groups/organizations. It has also developed a Workshop Discussion Guide for wide-circulation. The Guide is attached for your information and consideration.
As a member of ASVI, and given the scope of our volunteer work, you have a vested interest in the education of students with visual impairments. Accordingly ASVI values and requests your feedback. Feedback received will be presented on your behalf by your ASVI Representative at the Program Review stakeholders’ meeting.
You can participate in providing your feedback in any or all of the following ways:
Read and respond to the questions in this guide, or write your general feedback and return it to your ASVI (Edmonton District) representative, Linda Stirrett at: linda.stirrett@telus.net (27 Pineridge Crescent, St. Albert, Alberta T8N 4P6) or to Alberta Education, Toni Hafso at: toni.hafso@gov.ab.ca;
Attend the ASVI (Edmonton District) Executive meeting on: Tuesday, November 13th at 7:30 p.m. at CNIB, 12010 – Jasper Avenue (east entrance on Jasper Avenue) to participate in a feedback session using the Workshop Discussion Guide.
This is a very exciting and important time for our children. ASVI encourages you to take an active role in communicating with your Government any concerns or suggestions you have about their education.
Linda Stirrett, President ASVI (Edmonton District) |
